Glentauchers distillery was founded in 1897 at Tauchers Farm near Mulben by the famous blender James Buchanan and whisky dealer William Lorie, expressly to supply malt whisky for blending, resulting in Buchanan formulating his famous ‘Black and White’ blends. The location was chosen for its proximity to the Great North of Scotland Railway line, and for the supply of clear soft water flowing from the Hill at Towie into the River Isla.
